Stem Cell Companies

As the uses for stem cells expand and more research is conducted, many companies have formed to help in this area. Stem cell companies include everything from cell banks that store stem cells to companies that help isolate and provide researchers with stem cell populations.

Many companies are very focused on a particular area. For instance, they may focus on preserving stem cells from baby teeth. The pulp that is found inside baby teeth contains stem cells. Some parents are even saving the stem cells from the baby teeth of their children in case these stem cells are ever needed again.

On the other hand, some companies focus on all types of stem cells regardless of the source. These companies carry a variety of stem cells and work with researchers to meet their needs. Moreover, some of these companies often produce proprietary products that they supply to doctors and researchers.

Not just researchers are interested in companies involved with stem cells. Many investors over the past few years have noticed the potential of stem cell companies. As more research is done in this field and more uses are found for stem cells, more companies are created to handle the unique needs of this field.

Many of these companies struggle to be profitable, but some of them have thrived. For instance, some companies have done well storing umbilical cord blood. Just like with baby teeth stem cells, some parents are deciding to store the umbilical cord blood of their children in case the stem cells are ever needed. This process is very expensive, and the likelihood of the stem cells being needed is small, but companies do exist that will help parents store this blood if they so desire.

Some companies are on the leading edge of research. These companies are expanding the technology because they are looking for ways to commercialize stem cells. This isn't all about money. By looking for effective ways to utilize stem cell technology, these companies are also finding ways to help patients.

Stem cell companies exist throughout the world. These companies are all governed by the laws and regulations of their particular countries, and these laws vary. For instance, in the United States, public stem cell companies and researchers are able to do research with embryonic stem cells that cannot be done by any institute that receives federal funds.

One main controversy surrounding stem cell research relates to embryonic stem cells. These cells are the best type of stem cells because they can become any type of cell in the human body. Another advantage to embryonic stem cells is they replicate easily.

But embryonic stem cells come from human embryos that are destroyed during the harvesting process. For that reason, many ethical and moral questions surround the use of embryonic stem cells. Federal funding is no longer allocated to projects that destroy human embryos.

But some private companies have pressed on with research, and one has even found a way to retrieve embryonic stem cells without destroying the embryo. This is a huge advance in the study of stem cells and should help researchers and scientist around the globe.
